Bowerhouse was a marketing agency rebrand that I was fortunate enough to take part in between the years of 2022-2024.

In early fall of 2022, the founders of Colony Digital had announced that we would be stepping down from the name that originally intended to refer to “a colony of working bees,” as the term suggested otherwise to many who had come across the agency’s brand identity. The name change was not only an acknowledgement of being woke and with the times, it was also part a further development plan of the agency’s larger vision, which was a steer towards becoming Vancouver’s top social-media marketing agency.

The rebrand began with the concept behind the name and values of where the agency was headed. From a team of entrepreneurs, social marketers and creative’s alike, Colony wanted a new identity that honoured the work that we put out for our clients, and that supported the idea that we create cutting-edge content and offer a wide range of solutions.

THE FACE BEHIND THE NAME

THE FACE BEHIND THE NAME

The name derives from nature itself: The Bowerbird.
These Australian native species are quite unique for their vertical arched nest formations (called the bower), and their intellectual abilities to collect objects for said nest that are similar in colour to that of their feathers. Male bowerbirds do this for mating purposes,
to show off their cribs to potential suitors, and overall represent
their friendly attitude and offerings with the wild.

These incredible creatures inspired the name “Bower House” -
a place where we too thrive on being creative, the agency being our nest, and eager to share our skills and offerings with the world.

However, this little bird didn’t stop at just the name.
The Bowerbird easily fit in as the face of the brand, manifesting itself as an illustrated mascot. The collection of blue items and feathers from the male Bowerbird became the inspiration behind the brand’s colour palette, along with additional pops of colour. The bird’s friendly and quirky personality inspired us to choose typefaces that mirrored that concept. Even the different items collected by the bird inspired different shapes and patterns to appear throughout the brand’s identity, giving the creative agency one of the most unique and
fun looks in the marketing industry.

Our Clients Include…

What I Do >

  • Occasionally, we are approached by clients to help develop integral brand material aside from just social media content, such as logos, brand identity design or other brand supporting materials that will be further integrated and developed upon. Some honourable mentions of projects/clients that I’ve been involved in include Ayouda and Model Reno for full brand identity development, Donair Dude and Plant Veda for social media identity, and Logo designs for Triple O’s 25th Anniversary and Rosewood’s Little Dix Bay’s Racquet Club.

  • From a creative lens, I’m included in the initial strategy phases of a campaign to help ideate and storyboard/moodboard our concepts before production.

  • This can range from one off to multi-part campaigns or carousels for reels or static posts, but in general these in-feed designs are highly focused on a creative concept that gets sent to our clients on a regular basis within a Content Management Tool. We prepare this content 2 weeks in advance, and where I am involved in the overall strategy and conceptualization phases of the work, but have the most creative freedom in the design conceptualization. These posts integrate display typography, image assets or renders, graphics, illustration, colour, brand styling and often times animation or sound effects.

  • A significant component to a brand’s overall outreach is creating a package of story templates to use for Instagram or Meta. These are highly creative, but focus on a genre of topics that support the company’s constant flow of informational content, such as news and events, but also integrating engagement stories and sharing UGC content, or in-feed posts.

  • A popular service we offer through digital marketing, which creates incredible traction for a brand, is creating a set of display ads to be used across mobile and desktop platforms. These are often created as in a set of 2 variations to be A/B tested, and integrate HTML5 animations to include movement.

  • I will often be tasked with image edits for our clients, that include image cropping, lighting adjustments, and at times full photoshop edits of elements in and out of frame to reconstruct the image.

  • A lot of our organic content is often times asked to be turned into animated reels, so I’ve learned to plug my work into After Effects to help bring the designs to life!
